New Yorkers Claim U.S. Energy Savings a Rip-Off

WIVB.com, Buffalo, Jan 18, 2008

A new company will be canvassing the Buffalo area, promising big savings on your home heating bill. But as Call 4 Action's Al Vaughters reports, hundreds of New York consumers say they've been ripped-off by U.S. Energy Savings.

The Salvation Army gets a timely boost, a 10-thousand-dollar check to help the elderly, and other folks in need pay their heating bills this winter. But what you don't see is the hundreds of New York consumers who claim this alternative marketing company, U.S. Energy Savings, is ripping them off.

Kirsten, a southtowns mom told us, a salesman for U.S. Energy Savings was going door-to-door in her neighborhood signing up new customers, offering to lower their heating bills. Kirsten says she didn't put her name on anything, but U.S. Energy Savings sent her a contract with a signature that is supposed to be hers.

And there are hundreds of complaints across New York against this company, even more in other states and into Canada. But resolutions don't seem to come easy.

Joe Metty told us last month the company blew off his claim of overcharges and he wanted to dump them. After we intervened, Joe was allowed to cancel his U.S. Energy contract.
