Electricity Industry Restructuring In New York.

The electricity industry is being restructured by the PSC, changing from the familiar local monopoly electric company providing full “bundled” service to multi-provider environment in which some formerly bundled service elements, such as electric energy, are “unbundled” and also sold by competitive companies.

PULP opposed administrative restructuring of the industry by the PSC without comprehensive legislative action to address the issues of the obligation to serve, future resource planning, universal service, affordable energy prices, low income rates and customer protection.

For a detailed summary of PSC actions taken to restructure the New York electricity industry, see Electricity Deregulation in New York 1996 - 2002 - PULP - 11-2002
